The Yugoslav composer Goran Bregovic presented today at the Festival Grec in Barcelona his band for weddings and funerals.
Theirs is a curious case and also a good example of the complexity of their identity. Born in Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina) in 1950, Bregovic is a staunch supporter of the Yugoslav citizenship. As such it was proclaimed from the Balkan War, which was forced to transfer his residence in Paris.
After graduating in philosophy and sociology at the University of Belgrade, he worked for several years as a professor in the Faculty of Philosophy of that city, until he decided todevote himself to his passion, music. Along with the rock band Bijelo recorded his first album, then focuses on the recovery of their nation Floklore wisely and fusing with rock and classical music, blazing a path that many others followed after. Later came the turn of the movies, which gave his creations a fully international dimension. Very known are his soundtracks for the films of Emir Kusturica and PatrickChéreau.
